- Who can apply: registered Canadian charities, schools (primary, secondary and post-secondary), municipalities, and Indigenous groups or communities.
- Where: across Canada.
What it funds
The foundation's main focus is environmental education and green space. Eligible project types include:
- schoolyard greening;
- park revitalization;
- community gardens;
- park programming;
- citizen science.
What it won't fund
- Infrastructure and capital costs, such as sheds, solar panels or water refill stations
- Administrative, contingency or operating costs
- Research projects
- Advocacy expenses
- Travel, including mileage, accommodation and meals
- Projects already underway
- Projects on private land with no public access
Common mistakes to avoid
- Blurring the line between "citizen science" and formal research. Water sampling or species counts may fit when the focus is public education and community participation, but research projects are excluded. Make sure your application highlights how the public is involved.
- Including travel or capital purchases in the budget. Keep them out, or fund them from another source.
- Applying for work that has already started. Plan for the funding decision to come before the project begins.
How to apply: online, through the application on TD's official grant page.

Want to see which other foundations fit your project?
Checking one funder is a good start, but building a strong shortlist takes legwork. Tell us about your project and we’ll use CRA gift records to find five foundations that have supported similar work, then verify each one’s current rules and deadlines on its website. The initial fit check is free, and you see a summary of what we found before you decide to pay. If we can’t find at least one opportunity open now or opening soon from a funder new to you, you pay nothing.
